Stemcell information

The National Institute of Health defines stemcell information this way.

"Stem cells have the remarkable potential to develop into many different types of cells in the body. These serve as a repair system to the body. They can theoretically divide without limit to replenish other cells as long as the person is still alive.

When a stem cell divides, each new cell has the potential to either remain a stem cell or become another cell with a with a very specialised function, such as a muscle cell a red blood cell or a brain cell."

When the sperm fertilises an egg the first thing to be created is a stem cell.

Following this, the cell divides into more stem cells and these continue to divide until they become specific types of cells that will become different parts of the body.

These are EMBRYONIC CELLS and this stem cell information has been at the center of all the scientific effort and medical research to date. They have in the past also dominated the media's focus and attention.

Now however, this is changing. Adult cells are starting to hit the headlines because stemcell information is in demand and these adult stem cells are really achieving results.

These cells are now called ADULT STEM CELLS and we now know, these cells are the body's primary system of repair and body maintenance.

The term "adult stem" cell can be very misleading. As soon as you are born all your cells are now called adult stem cells.( You didn't know you were an adult the day you were born did you? !!!) Some people think it would be better than growing up,. I like it the way it is, thank you.

After birth and throughout the life of the person, STEM CELLS CONTINUE TO BE MADE IN THE BODY and this stemcell information is going to have a profound effect on our future health care.

This very recent discovery has already led to some and wonderful health benefits. This is the way of the future.
